Frequently asked questions

What’s the most popular dance style for kids?

We find that whatever style has been chosen for the incursion, students will love it! Whether it’s a style they’re already familiar with – like hip hop – or whether it’s something totally new like African or Indigenous, our instructors know how to get the best out of kids and make them feel confident in any dance genre.

Are all your dance and fitness instructors qualified?

Absolutely! All our instructors have many years of training and study behind them. They all work professionally in the dance and fitness industry, both locally and internationally. You can read all about them in the Our team menu. Founder Nikki Visaj is also a qualified health and physical education teacher with a Bachelor Of Applied Science (Physical Education/Humanities). All instructors are great role models for physical literacy and health.

Do you provide the necessary equipment for fitness incursions?

Yes, we provide all equipment necessary for whatever incursion is booked. This will include our own speakers, hand sanitiser and other health and safety requirements.

Are the combat incursions contact or non-contact?

Always non-contact! We make this clear at the beginning of each session. Everyone will feel safe during our classes. We want to help the students to feel relaxed enough to practice mindfulness and have fun while also learning physical literacy.

Is your music age–appropriate?

Yes! All our instructors choose their music according to the age group they’re leading. We’re proud to feature music that’s positive, has no profanity and is uplifting and non-threatening. We want kids to finish their incursion feeling energised and confident.

Can any age group do any style of dance and fitness?

Yes, our experience has shown us that children of any age can do any one of the dance styles we offer. We tailor every class for the age of the students participating. This means that we teach to certain levels for different age groups so everyone has the chance to feel confident and shine.

How difficult is the fitness program? What about my students who aren’t normally physically active?

Our programs cater for all fitness levels. For incursions, especially when we work with a new group, we always start at a beginner level. We want kids to succeed so we break down all movements, skills and techniques to a basic level to make sure no one is injured and everyone has fun. During the class, if we see there are students ready for the next level up, we will adjust our teaching for those individuals to create more of a challenge.

How do your programs fit into our school curriculum?

Our programs all align with the Australian Curriculum framework for physical education and health. This means that we are experienced and qualified to teach physical literacy skills. The Australian Curriculum says that it “aims to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to enable students to access, evaluate and synthesise information to take positive action to protect, enhance and advocate for their own and others’ health, wellbeing, safety and physical activity participation across their lifespan.” This is at the core of what we teach. Our Aboriginal (Indigenous) classes also help teachers and schools to weave in appropriate (and fun) content to meet the cross–curriculum priorities and explorations into Aboriginal Histories and Cultures. These sessions are also the perfect addition to your learning design around Reconciliation or Naidoc week.

Does dance help with a child’s mental health or wellbeing?

Dance is not just a great form of fitness and exercise, but it also helps children and young people to express themselves in their own unique way. Every session is a safe space led by positive role models who promote physical literacy. All our classes start with a warm up and end with a warm down. During this time especially, our instructors keep tabs on the class and communicate to build mental and physical awareness. They deliver powerful spoken and unspoken messages of body and emotional positivity for everyone.

How do you manage students who don’t want to participate? My class of teenagers can be a handful.

Our instructors each have many years’ experience teaching dance and fitness to groups of children and young people. Between them, they have 100 years of leading group dance classes or individual sessions. We find that children and young people who aren’t into mainstream or team sports often excel in our dance, fitness and mindfulness sessions. We emphasise creativity and confidence through physical literacy. While there should be the expectation that everyone will participate, we want students to have a fabulous time, so our instructors know how to get the best out of young people. It helps if everyone present takes part – teachers also love our incursions! You could even consider inviting parents.

What do we need to provide for a school incursion with NVM?
  • A large, open space suitable to accommodate both participating students and audience
  • A raised area or stage is a bonus but not compulsory
  • A wireless microphone would be a bonus but is not compulsory.

Our instructors will arrive at least 15 mins before the start of the event to sign in and set up. They will provide all equipment and speakers. Our programs are structured around your school timetable. Teachers must be present during the session.

Can we pay for your incursions through our SportAus grant funds?

Our stadium is still rocking from the most amazing high energy 60 minutes I have ever seen our excited children experience. The performance ranks as a highlight of my 40 year career. I can’t recommend them highly enough. They will be back with us next year

Rob Nelson

The NV team are one of a kind. They are a terrific team to work with and would be fantastic for any school. We have used them for cultural experiences, exhibitions, concerts and whole presentations. They can bring a smile to anyone’s face, young or old, tall or small. They are worth every minute!

Grant Nalder
Head of Junior Boys Trinity Grammar

Highly professional and motivating. They worked extremely hard and ensured both students and staff were challenged and engaged throughout movement. Great vibe across the sessions. The school has spent thousands on motivational speakers but what The NVM brought to our school was a motivation and inspiration beyond our expectations. Thanks for taking up the opportunity to take The NVM interstate.

Andrew Johnson
Callaghan College NSW

After having The NVM in our school last year there were so many students and staff who wanted to know when they would be back in our school again – it was a very easy decision to book them in every year for our school. We have loved having DanceMob experiences and look forward to having them every year – they are an excellent and outstanding Dance program, one I would highly suggest and recommend to any school.
